A Statement of Intent

Campaign promises notwithstanding, maybe for the first time in American political history we have a candidate’s declaration of the actions he plans to take if elected to the office of the President of the United States.  And these are assurances that we, the American public, can take readily to the bank.  Truthfully, I couldn’t be more afraid for us all.

What he said was this:

“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot people and I wouldn’t lose voters, okay.”

But in this, his clearest statement of intent so far, Trump has laid out the seriousness of his ‘vision’.  It should force us to take everything he says as future fact.  It should make us realize that it’s not hyperbole and it’s not bombast when he says he’ll ban Muslims from the US; he seriously means to do it.

It’s a short 18 word sentence that should make us look at every single phrase that’s come out of the Donald’s mouth since he declared his candidacy with a more than critical eye because for example when he lashes out at and insults women, we know now-or we should know now-that such things will fast become the norm when he is elected.

And the fact that Trump screened attendees at a Vermont rally earlier this month, preferring those “loyal” to him should give us pause and make us question who exactly will benefit from this new great America he purports that he and only he can produce.  Would it be everyone, all men, women and children regardless of Race or creed?

Like I said, I’m afraid; I just wish more of us were.
